Competency Level: Expert

Course duration: 9 minutes

Course type: Injection simulation on a human body donor performed by Prof. Sebastian Cotofana

Course Description

The Depressor anguli oris (= DAO) and the Depressor labii inferioris (DLI) muscles are located in the perioral region and connect the lower lip to the mandible. The DAO can depress the corner of the mouth, whereas the DLI can depress the lower lip of each facial side, respectively. The muscle bellies of both muscles overlie and interact with each other which is why it is important to know the anatomic differences between them. This video provides a comprehensive clinical and anatomic review of these specific muscles and of the injection site which empowers injectors toward safer procedures with a reduced adverse events profile.

Learning Objectives

Describe the detailed anatomy of the DAO and DLI muscles.

Demonstrate safe injection techniques targeting the perioral region.

Identify potential adverse events and apply strategies to prevent complications during treatment.
