Professor Sebastian Cotofana, M.D., Ph.D., Ph.D., is recognized globally as the world’s leading anatomist in the field of facial aesthetics.
With extensive research and expertise, he’s a sought-after speaker and influencer in aesthetic research worldwide. After medical studies in Munich, Germany, he pursued surgical training in Trauma Surgery before focusing on anatomic basic sciences and earning dual Ph.D. degrees in Medical Sciences and Anatomy.
He holds multiple honorary professorships at Queen Mary University in London, England; Pirogov University in Moscow, Russia; the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Guangdong Second Provincial General Hospital, China; and the University of Medical Sciences in San José, Costa Rica. Additionally, he holds visiting professorships at Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia, and at the University of Belgrade, Serbia.
His contributions to scientific literature include over 300 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and online communications.
In 2023, Prof. Cotofana was appointed as Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at Vanderbilt University, TN, USA where he supports the department in research and education.
In a 2020 study, Prof. Cotofana identified the Line of Convergence in the forehead, a horizontal anatomical landmark where the bidirectional movements of the forehead muscles meet. This discovery has been instrumental for cosmetic procedures, particularly in the precise application of botulinum toxin for the treatment of horizontal forehead wrinkles
Prof. Cotofana has contributed to over 300 research publications and book chapters that have advanced the field of aesthetic medicine and guided clinical practice in facial aesthetics
