In this course, we explore the anatomy and function of two closely related muscles: the Depressor Anguli Oris (DAO) and the Depressor Labii Inferioris (DLI). Learn about their unique roles in facial expression, including their relationships with the lips and the modiolus. The course delves into the basic anatomy of each muscle, their connections, extensions, and how they contribute to the formation of facial lines and expressions. Additionally, we discuss the significance of the labiomandibular sulcus in facial aesthetics and how the location of both muscles can be best understood to either avoid the DLI and to target the DAO. An anatomic dissection clip is included to provide a comprehensive understanding of the muscles’ layered location and functional relationships.
“The original name of the DAO was triangularis muscle.”
