In this course, you will explore the LLSAN (levator labii superioris alaeque nasi) and LAO (levator anguli oris) muscles. Learn about their anatomic locations, features, and interactions with the overlying skin. Discover how the LLSAN contributes to the formation of the nasolabial fold, its relationship to the angular vein, to the infraorbital foramen and how this muscle is responsible for the so-called “gummy smile”. You will also learn about the LAO and how this muscle originates in relationship to the infraorbital foramen and its course deep to the LLSAN. This course provides detailed insights into the function and anatomic relationships of these two muscles, enhancing your understanding for precise aesthetic treatments especially with neuromodulators. The course includes a clip of an anatomic dissection to provide a clear visual understanding of the complexity of these muscles and their impact on facial aesthetics.
“This muscle was originally called quadratus labii superioris.”
