Tear Trough Treatments: Deep Cannula Technique (Lateral Approach)

Tear Trough Treatments: Deep Cannula Technique (Lateral Approach)

Red background

Overview

The classic cannula injection technique for the tear trough follows a dermal access from the midface. Recent research studies have indicated that an injection approach coming from lateral i.e. inserting the cannula into the SOOF and advancing medially into the tear trough can deliver great if not superior outcomes. In this video, the deep cannula technique with a lateral injection approach is simulated.

Treatment type: Soft Tissue Fillers

Facial region: Tear Trough

Approach: Needle Injection Technique

Competency Level: Competent

Course duration: 23 minutes

Course type: Injection simulation on a human body donor performed by Prof. Sebastian Cotofana

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the layered anatomy of the upper middle face and periorbital region
  • Appraise the complexities of the arterial and venous vasculature of the tear trough and of the lateral infraorbital region
  • Compare the dangers and benefits of using a deep cannula technique in a lateral injection approach to treat the tear trough deformity
