
Overview
The jawline is frequently targeted with neuromodulators to enhance a sharp and crisp transition between the lower face and the neck. The muscle that is frequently targeted during such neuromodulator-based treatments is the platysma muscle. However, it must be understood that the platysma muscle is continuous with the SMAS and the SMAS itself is connected to the facial elevator muscles, thereby forming an antagonistic pair of elevators versus depressors muscles. Weakening the facial depressor muscles will result in an imbalance which can affect the entire face. This video provides a comprehensive clinical and anatomic review of these muscles and their respective biomechanics which guides injectors toward safer procedures.
